Answers to the most common questions about this course.

What is the Resilient AI Safety Essentials (RAISE) course?
Resilient AI Safety Essentials (RAISE) is a free RiseCert online course that teaches professionals, their teams, and their families to recognize and stop AI-powered threats such as deepfakes, voice clones, and AI phishing. It includes 20 short lessons in six modules, about 1.5 hours of video, and ends with the RAISE Certification Exam.
Who should take an AI safety and deepfake awareness course?
Any professional who uses email, phone, video calls, or AI tools at work, plus the teams and families around them. RAISE is especially relevant for the roles attackers target most: payment-capable staff, executive assistants, IT and HR, executives, and public-facing employees. Its family lessons also help people protect elders and teens from voice-clone and extortion scams.
Do I need a technical or cybersecurity background to take RAISE?
No. RAISE is written for everyday professionals, not security specialists, and none of its core habits require technical skill. It teaches process over gadgets: pause, verify through a channel you already trust, then act; use unique passwords, multi-factor authentication, and prompt updates; and report fast. Ideas like prompt injection and least privilege are explained in plain language.
How can you tell if a phone call or video call is a deepfake?
Often you can't, and RAISE teaches you not to rely on trying. The best voice clones and video deepfakes show no glitches, and caller ID can be spoofed. Instead, judge behavior, such as a rush to money, resistance to callbacks, or demands for secrecy, then verify out-of-band by calling back on a number you already had.
What is out-of-band verification?
Out-of-band verification means confirming a request through a channel that is different from the one it arrived on, chosen by you rather than the requester, and established before the request existed, such as a saved contact or the company directory. RAISE calls it the golden rule: a callback on a known number defeats even a perfect voice clone.
What is a family code word, and how does it stop voice-clone scams?
A family code word is a pre-agreed phrase that is never posted anywhere, so a voice clone built from public audio cannot know it. RAISE pairs it with the callback habit: hang up and dial the person's real number. The course walks you through setting this up at home, including gently rehearsing the callback with elders.
What topics are covered in the RAISE course?
RAISE has six modules: Module 1: The AI Threat Landscape; Module 2: The Human Firewall; Module 3: Securing Your AI Tools & Data; Module 4: Personal & Digital Safety; Module 5: When It Happens: Incident Response; and Module 6: Building Your Resilience Program. Topics range from AI phishing, voice clones, and business email compromise to prompt injection and family safety.
Will RAISE teach me how to use AI chatbots and agents safely at work?
Yes. Module 3 explains how AI tools become targets through prompt injection, data leakage, poisoning, and shadow AI. RAISE teaches a pre-paste check for approved tools and work accounts, prompt hygiene that strips identifiers, verifying AI outputs in proportion to the stakes, least privilege for agents and integrations, and keeping a human on irreversible steps. It is vendor-neutral.
What will I be able to do after completing RAISE?
You'll be able to recognize the five AI-enabled attack families, verify requests out-of-band, apply payment controls against business email compromise, use AI tools without leaking data, secure your accounts and digital footprint, set up a family code word, report suspicious contact including near-misses, take the right first-hour incident steps, and help build a lasting resilience program.
How is RAISE different from annual security awareness training?
Traditional training teaches you to spot fakes by their typos, generic greetings, or odd audio, and AI erased those tells. RAISE trains the pressure decision instead: pause, verify through a channel you already trust, then act. It rehearses that decision across email, phone, video, AI tools, and family scenarios so it becomes a reflex rather than a one-time module.
What should you do if you clicked a phishing link or sent money to a scammer?
Act immediately. RAISE teaches that if you clicked a link or entered a password, you report it to security, change that password everywhere it was reused, and revoke active sessions. If money moved, call your bank's fraud line right away, since recall windows run in hours, and report to law enforcement, such as the FBI's IC3 in the US.
Is the RAISE course content up to date?
Yes. RAISE addresses today's AI-enabled threats, including voice cloning, live video deepfakes, AI-upgraded business email compromise, and prompt injection against AI tools and agents. Because attack technology changes quickly, the course centers on process-based defenses, such as out-of-band verification and fast reporting, that do not depend on spotting fakes and keep working as tools improve.
How long does the RAISE course take to complete?
RAISE has about 1.5 hours of video across 20 short self-paced lessons in six modules, and lessons run a few minutes each. Allow extra time for the RAISE Certification Exam at the end. Because you can pause and resume whenever you like, it's easy to complete in a few sittings.
Is RAISE online and self-paced?
Yes. RAISE is 100% online and self-paced, and your access does not expire. You can start, pause, and resume any time on a computer, tablet, or phone with a modern web browser. There's nothing to install, and you can revisit lessons like out-of-band verification or the family setup whenever you want a refresher.
Is there a final exam for the RAISE certification?
Yes. RAISE ends with the 30-question RAISE Certification Exam, a multiple-choice test drawn from all six modules. You need 80% (24 of 30) to pass, and retakes are unlimited. Knowledge checks inside the lesson videos let you practice along the way. Complete all 20 lessons and pass the exam to earn your RiseCert RAISE certificate.
Do I get a certificate after finishing RAISE?
Yes. After completing all 20 lessons and passing the RAISE Certification Exam, you can download the RiseCert RAISE certificate. It is a course credential, a certificate of completion, not a license, not a professional certification issued by a licensing body, and not a continuing education (CE) certificate.
Can RAISE be used for continuing education (CE, CPE, or CEU) credit?
No. RAISE is not currently approved or accredited for continuing education (CE, CPE, or CEU) credit by any state or licensing body. If you need hours for a license or professional credential, choose a course approved by that body. RAISE is designed to build practical AI safety habits that complement required training, not replace it.
How much does RAISE cost, and can my team or family take it?
RAISE is free to enroll: create a RiseCert account and start, with no payment and no subscription. Because there is no cost, coworkers and family members can each create an account and take the course. For an organization-wide rollout, contact RiseCert through the Contact Us page at risecert.org.
What is the refund policy for RAISE?
RAISE is free, so no payment is taken and no refund applies. For paid RiseCert courses, all sales are final and no refunds are issued, per the RiseCert Terms of Use, so review a paid course's description, lesson list, and FAQs before purchasing.
Is RAISE legal or security-consulting advice?
No. RAISE is educational content, not legal, security-consulting, financial, or professional advice. It teaches habits that reduce AI-enabled risk but cannot guarantee you or your organization will never be compromised. Organizations should follow their own policies and consult qualified advisors, such as legal counsel on data-breach notification duties, for specific situations.
