AI for Engagement & Practice Management

Proposals, engagement letters, conflict checks, budgets, status reports, billing narratives, and closing reviews make up much of the work of running a professional practice. This course shows practice leaders and engagement managers in law, accounting, and consulting firms how AI can take the first pass on each of them while a professional owns every decision. You'll learn to draft from the firm's own record, write scope that holds, keep conflicts and sign-off with people, bill accurately, and turn finished engagements into firm knowledge and honest metrics. You'll finish with a one-page practice management playbook and a practice leader's checklist.

Course Description

AI can draft a proposal in an hour, tailor an engagement letter in minutes, and pull a budget from years of firm history. It can also claim experience the firm doesn't have, guess a client's entity name, or reconstruct time entries nobody recorded. This course covers the full engagement lifecycle with one rule: the tool prepares, and the professional verifies, decides, and signs.

What you'll learn

  • Proposals and engagement letters drafted from the firm's own record, with scope that holds
  • AI-assisted intake and conflict searches, with decisions kept with the professional
  • Budgets and staffing plans built from firm history, then adjusted with judgment
  • Status reports, client messages, and matter plans grounded in the matter record
  • Billing narratives the timekeeper writes and the tool checks, plus review points that don't move
  • Curated knowledge with access controls, honest post-engagement reviews, and practice metrics

Answers to the most common questions about this course.

What is the AI for Engagement & Practice Management course?
AI for Engagement & Practice Management is a RiseCert online course for practice leaders and engagement managers in law, accounting, and consulting firms. It covers the engagement lifecycle from proposal to closing review, with AI doing the first pass and a professional owning every decision. It includes 15 video lessons (about 1 hour 25 minutes) and a final exam.
Who should take an AI practice management course?
Partners, practice leaders, engagement managers, and project managers in law, accounting, and consulting firms, along with the practice, billing, intake, and knowledge-management staff who support them. It suits anyone who writes proposals, scopes engagements, runs matters, reviews bills, or reports on practice performance and wants to use AI without giving up professional control.
How can AI help run a law, accounting, or consulting practice?
The course shows AI taking the first pass on proposals, engagement letters, intake and conflict searches, budgets, status reports, matter plans, billing reviews, knowledge retrieval, closing reviews, and practice metrics. In each case the tool drafts, searches, flags, or computes, and the professional verifies facts against the firm's record and makes the decisions.
Can AI write billing narratives and time entries?
Only in a limited way, as the course teaches it. AI may reformat the timekeeper's own note, check narratives against client billing guidelines, suggest task codes, and flag inconsistencies. It may not invent what was done, expand narratives to justify hours, add or split time, reconstruct entries weeks later, or submit anything without the timekeeper's review and firm approval.
Can AI run a conflict check?
AI can support one but never decide it. The course shows AI extracting parties and affiliates, suggesting name variants, flagging possible matches, and drafting the intake memo, while the search runs in the firm's conflict system of record. Whether a match is a conflict, whether it can be waived, and whether to accept the client are the professional's decisions.
Can AI draft proposals and engagement letters?
Yes, from the firm's own material. The course teaches drafting proposals from approved credentials, bios, and prior proposals, and tailoring engagement letters from the firm's approved template. Every claim, credential, entity name, and fee is verified against the firm's record, scope names deliverables, exclusions, assumptions, and change triggers, and the responsible professional signs.
Does the course cover knowledge management and practice metrics?
Yes. Module 3 covers AI retrieval of precedents and templates with access controls enforced at retrieval, a curated knowledge base with named owners, post-engagement reviews that change templates and budget models, and practice metrics such as realization, cycle time, budget accuracy, utilization, satisfaction, and quality signals, reconciled before they're reported.
What will I be able to do after completing the course?
You'll be able to draft verified proposals, tailor engagement letters with scope that holds, run AI-assisted intake while keeping conflict decisions with professionals, build budgets from firm history, produce accurate status reports and billing narratives, manage matter plans and deadlines, curate firm knowledge, run honest closing reviews, and turn metrics into decisions.
Do I need technical skills or prior AI experience?
No. The course is written for practice leaders and professionals, not technologists, and there is no coding. It assumes familiarity with how your firm wins, scopes, runs, and bills work. The lessons focus on where AI fits in each step, what to verify, and which decisions stay with a person.
Which AI tools does the course cover?
The course is vendor-neutral and covers categories of tools rather than products: drafting assistants, knowledge and retrieval assistants, and AI features in billing, matter-planning, and reporting systems. No specific product is required or endorsed. Throughout, client data goes only into tools your firm has approved for that use and data class.
How long is AI for Engagement & Practice Management?
The course has about 1 hour 25 minutes of video across 15 lessons, plus a final exam. Lessons run about five to six minutes each and are organized into three modules: Winning and Scoping Work; Running the Engagement; and Knowledge and Improvement. Most learners finish in two or three sittings.
Is the course content up to date?
Yes. Points about professional rules, client billing guidelines, and required engagement-letter content are stated at principle level as of September 2026. Because rules and tools change, the course anchors on durable habits: draft from the firm's record, verify before anything leaves, keep decisions with professionals, and record AI use and verification in the matter.
Does the course cover client confidentiality and approved tools?
Yes. A lesson covers client data at intake: information from a prospective client is confidential before engagement, enters only firm-approved tools within their scope, and is limited to what the task needs. You'll learn to classify, route, give notice where required, and retain or dispose of intake data under policy, including for declined matters.
Is the course online and self-paced?
Yes. The course is 100% online and self-paced, and your access does not expire. You can start, pause, and resume at any time on a computer, tablet, or phone with a modern web browser. There's nothing to install.
Is there a final exam?
Yes. The course ends with a 30-question multiple-choice final exam covering all three modules. You need a score of 80% or higher (24 of 30) to pass, and you can retake the exam as many times as you need. Finish all 15 lessons and pass the exam to complete the course and earn your certificate.
Do I get a certificate of completion?
Yes. After you complete all 15 lessons and pass the final exam, you can download a RiseCert certificate of completion from your account. It is a course completion certificate, not a license, professional certification, or continuing education (CLE or CPE) certificate.
Does the course count for CLE or CPE credit?
No. The course is not currently approved for continuing education credit of any kind, including CLE for lawyers or CPE for accountants, by any bar, board, or accrediting body. For required credit hours, take a course approved by the relevant body. This course complements that training with practical AI practice-management skills.
Is this course legal, accounting, or ethics advice?
No. AI for Engagement & Practice Management is educational and is not legal, accounting, tax, or professional-responsibility advice. It teaches principles and habits for using AI across the engagement lifecycle, but your firm's policies, the professional rules that bind you, client billing guidelines, and local law govern specific decisions.
How much does the course cost, and can I enroll my team?
The course costs $99 per learner as a one-time purchase, with no subscription or recurring fees. To enroll a practice group, office, or whole firm, contact RiseCert through the Contact Us page at risecert.org.
What is the refund policy?
