AI-Assisted Project Management

Projects generate more documents than almost any other kind of work, and an AI assistant can draft most of them and spot patterns across all of them. This course shows project managers how to plan, track, and report with an assistant while keeping scope, negotiation, risk decisions, and accountability. You'll learn to calibrate AI estimates, catch slippage weeks early, and handle change requests and hard conversations well. You'll finish with a weekly rhythm and a checklist to run on your current project.

Course Description

An AI assistant can draft plans, schedules, risk logs, status reports, and change assessments in minutes. What it can't do is negotiate a deadline, decide what to cut, or be accountable when the project slips. This course teaches project managers to hand off the drafting and keep the judgment.

What you'll learn

  • Turning a one-page brief into a draft plan, and shaping it with what the tool doesn't know
  • Calibrating optimistic AI estimates with your team's history, and validating dependencies
  • Building a risk register where every top risk has an owner, a response, and a trigger
  • Verified status reports, early slippage signals, and issue and decision logs
  • Answering change requests with costed options, and tailoring updates for each audience
  • Preparing difficult conversations, running retrospectives, and protecting project data

Answers to the most common questions about this course.

What is the AI-Assisted Project Management course?
AI-Assisted Project Management is a RiseCert online course on using an AI assistant to draft plans, schedules, risk logs, status reports, and change assessments, and to spot slippage early, while the project manager keeps scope, negotiation, risk decisions, and accountability. It includes 15 video lessons (about 1 hour 5 minutes of video) and a final exam.
Who should take a course on AI for project management?
Project managers, program and delivery managers, team leads, coordinators, and anyone who runs projects without the title. It suits people who spend hours on plans, status reports, logs, and meeting follow-up and want an assistant to draft them, while staying the person who decides and is accountable for the project.
Do I need project management certification or AI experience first?
No. AI-Assisted Project Management assumes no AI or technical background and no particular certification. Familiarity with basic project ideas, such as milestones, dependencies, and status reports, helps. The course explains each practice in plain language through one running example project, so newer and experienced project managers can both follow it.
Can AI replace a project manager?
No, according to this course. AI drafts and spots: plans, reports, summaries, patterns, and options. The project manager decides and owns: scope, negotiation of dates and budget, which risks to accept, hard conversations, and the name on the plan. The tool knows the plan, not the people, so judgment and accountability stay human.
Are AI time estimates for project tasks accurate?
Not on their own. The course explains that AI estimates are systematically optimistic because they describe the happy path and leave out waiting, rework, meetings, and absences. It teaches calibrating them with your team's own actual-to-estimate ratios by task size from past projects, and showing that calibration to the sponsor.
How can AI help with project status reports?
An assistant can assemble a weekly status report from the tracker export, team updates, meeting notes, and last week's report, so it reports what changed rather than restating everything. The course teaches a three-part shape: where we are, what changed, and what we need. You set the status color and verify everything against the tracker.
What will I be able to do after completing the course?
You'll be able to turn a one-page brief into a draft plan, calibrate estimates with team history, validate dependencies with owners, build an owned risk register, write verified status reports, spot slippage early, keep issue and decision logs, assess change requests as options, tailor stakeholder updates, run retrospectives, and protect project data.
What topics does the course cover?
Three modules. Planning with an Assistant covers where AI fits, brief to plan, work breakdown and estimates, dependencies, and risk. Running the Project covers status reports, spotting slippage, issue and decision logs, meetings, and change requests. Communication and Judgment covers stakeholder updates, difficult conversations, retrospectives, confidentiality, and the AI-enabled PM practice.
Which project management or AI tools does the course use?
The course is tool-neutral and does not endorse any project management software or AI product. It works from common inputs any tracker produces, such as task exports with status, owner, and dates, and teaches you to use whichever AI assistant your employer has approved, on anonymized material.
Is it safe to put project plans and trackers into an AI assistant?
Only into AI tools your employer has approved. The course treats every project document as company-confidential by default, since plans, budgets, trackers, and risk registers reveal vendor, personnel, client, strategy, and financial details. It teaches anonymizing with consistent labels such as Owner 3 or Vendor X so the analysis still works.
How is this different from a general project management course?
A general course teaches project management methods. AI-Assisted Project Management assumes you run projects and teaches how to hand the drafting and pattern-spotting to an assistant safely: what to paste in, what shape to ask for, how to verify output against the tracker, and which decisions and conversations must stay with you.
How long does the course take to complete?
The course has about 1 hour 5 minutes of video across 15 lessons, plus a final exam. Lessons run about four to five minutes each and are organized into three modules: Planning with an Assistant, Running the Project, and Communication and Judgment. Many learners finish in one or two sittings.
Is the course online and self-paced?
Yes. AI-Assisted Project Management is 100% online and self-paced, and your access does not expire. You can start, pause, and resume any time on a computer, tablet, or phone with a modern web browser. There is nothing to install to watch the lessons.
Is there a final exam?
Yes. The course ends with a 30-question multiple-choice final exam covering all three modules. You need 80% or higher (24 of 30) to pass, and you can retake the exam as many times as you need. Complete all 15 lessons and pass the exam to finish the course.
Will I get a certificate of completion?
Yes. After you complete all 15 lessons and pass the final exam, you can download a RiseCert certificate of completion. It is a course completion certificate, not a license, a professional certification, or a continuing education (CE) certificate.
Can I earn PDUs or continuing education credit for this course?
No. AI-Assisted Project Management is not currently approved or accredited for continuing education credit, including CE, CEU, or professional development units, by any certifying body, state, or licensing organization. If you need credit to maintain a certification, check with the body that issues it and take a course it has approved.
Is this course legal or HR advice?
No. The course is educational and is not legal, HR, or contractual advice. It teaches general project practices with AI. Your employer's AI policy, HR processes, and contracts govern how you handle project data, vendor terms, and anything involving a team member's performance or personnel record.
How much does the course cost, and can I enroll my team?
AI-Assisted Project Management costs $99 per learner as a one-time purchase, with no subscription or recurring fees. To enroll a project team, a PMO, or a whole organization, contact RiseCert through the Contact Us page at risecert.org.
What is the refund policy?
All sales are final and no refunds are issued, as stated in the RiseCert Terms of Use. Please review the course description, the lesson list, and these FAQs before you purchase, and contact RiseCert first if you have any questions about whether the course fits your needs.
What is a decision log in project management?
A decision log, as taught in this course, records each project decision with six fields: the decision, date and who made it, options considered, why, consequences, and source. The why is the field meeting notes usually miss. Entries are appended, never edited, so a later dispute becomes a question of whether to change the decision.
