AI-Powered Research & Summarization

AI assistants can find, digest, and organize information faster than any tool before them, and they can also give a confident, well-formatted answer to the wrong question. This course teaches a five-step research workflow: brief, gather, summarize, verify, deliver. You'll learn to scope a question to the decision it serves, keep the assistant working on sources you supply, and verify citations, numbers, and internal documents well enough to act on. You'll finish able to write a one-page research memo with an honest confidence rating and a trail anyone can follow.

Course Description

Most AI research goes wrong before the search starts, with a vague question, or after it ends, with a citation nobody opened. This course shows you how to use AI assistants for the research that fills a real work week, and how to verify the results well enough to put your name on them.

What you'll learn

  • The three-line research brief: what you need to know, by when, and to decide what
  • Why synthesis of supplied material is reliable and recall from memory needs checking
  • Purposeful summaries, source-tagged themes, comparison tables, and recovery prompts
  • Treating citations as pointers, weighing sources, and the sized two-source rule
  • Tracing statistics and charts, and researching internal documents safely
  • One-page memos, competitive scans, research trails, and time-boxed delivery

Who it's for

Professionals in any role who research, summarize, or compare information for decisions: analysts, managers, project leads, and anyone asked to "look into" something. No technical background needed.

15 short video lessons in three modules: Research That Starts Right; Finding, Comparing, Verifying; and From Findings to Decisions.

This course is educational and is not legal or financial advice. Your employer's AI policy governs which tools and documents you may use.

Got Questions? We've Got Answers!

Answers to the most common questions about this course.

What is the AI-Powered Research & Summarization course?
AI-Powered Research & Summarization is a RiseCert online course that teaches professionals to use AI assistants for workplace research and to verify the results well enough to act on. It covers research briefs, summarizing one or many documents, cited answers, source comparison, verification, statistics, internal documents, and research memos across 15 video lessons (about an hour), plus a final exam.
Who should take a course on AI research and summarization?
Anyone who is asked to look into something at work: analysts, managers, project leads, consultants, operations and policy staff, and individual contributors who compare vendors, summarize reports, or answer questions for decision-makers. AI-Powered Research & Summarization suits both regular AI users and people who want a reliable method before relying on AI for research.
Do I need research or technical experience to take it?
No. The course explains every technique in plain language with workplace examples, such as a vague request to look into new regulations, a six-vendor comparison, and a statistic that turns out to be four years old. There are no prerequisites, and no coding or data-science background is required.
Can you trust an AI assistant for research?
It depends on the mode. AI-Powered Research & Summarization teaches that synthesis, where the assistant works on material you supplied, is reliable for shape and checkable in detail. Recall, where it answers from memory, is useful for orientation but never a source, because its errors look identical to correct answers. The fix: you supply the sources; the tool synthesizes.
Are AI search citations reliable?
A citation is a pointer, not a proof. It usually means a page exists and the tool consulted it, not that the page supports the specific claim, is reliable, or is current. The course names three failures that look like success, drift, weak source, and stale page, and teaches clicking through every claim you'll use and citing the page you verified, never the tool.
How do you summarize a long document with AI?
Don't just ask for a summary, which compresses proportionally and drops caveats and numbers. The course teaches a four-part shape: decisions, risks and caveats, open questions, and what it means for us, plus every number and date. For documents too long for one pass: chunk by section, summarize each, merge, then spot-check two chunks.
How do I verify facts that come from AI?
Prefer the primary source, the thing itself rather than someone describing it. For any fact you'll act on or present, find two independent sources, at least one primary. For legal, financial, regulatory, or medical facts, read the primary source yourself, every time. Date every fact, and put "as of" in front of every number you present.
Does the course cover researching internal company documents?
Yes. Lesson 2.5 explains how retrieval-based assistants search company documents and answer from what they find, and why they can surface old versions, drafts, or superseded policies. It teaches checking the document, version, date, and owner, and staying within access and confidentiality lines: surfaced isn't authorized, and company documents stay in company tools.
What will I be able to do after completing the course?
You'll be able to turn a vague request into a scoped brief, summarize one or many documents for a decision, build source-tagged comparison tables, recover what summaries drop, verify cited answers, weigh and compare sources, trace statistics and charts, research internal material safely, and deliver a one-page memo with an honest confidence rating and a research trail.
How is this different from general AI training?
General AI training often stops at asking good questions. AI-Powered Research & Summarization focuses on the full research job: scoping to a decision, keeping the tool on supplied sources, verifying citations and numbers, spotting echoed sources, labeling confidence honestly, and delivering findings on time. It treats verification as a set of quick, sized habits rather than an afterthought.
Does the course teach a specific AI tool?
No. The course is tool-neutral and endorses no product. Its methods apply to general AI assistants, search assistants that cite sources, and retrieval tools connected to company documents. You use whichever tools your employer approves; the brief, the verification habits, and the memo format work the same way across them.
How long does the AI-Powered Research & Summarization course take?
The course has about an hour of video across 15 lessons, plus a final exam. Lessons run about four minutes each and are organized into three modules: Research That Starts Right; Finding, Comparing, Verifying; and From Findings to Decisions. Many learners finish in one or two sittings.
Is the course online and self-paced?
Yes. The course is 100% online and self-paced, and your access does not expire. You can start, pause, and resume at any time on a computer, tablet, or phone with a modern web browser. There's nothing to install.
Is there a final exam?
Yes. The course ends with a 30-question multiple-choice final exam covering all three modules. You need a score of 80% or higher (24 of 30) to pass, and you can retake the exam as many times as you need. Finish all 15 lessons and pass the exam to complete the course and earn your certificate.
Do I get a certificate of completion?
Yes. After you complete all 15 lessons and pass the final exam, you can download a RiseCert certificate of completion from your account. It is a course completion certificate, not a license, professional certification, or continuing education (CE) certificate.
Is the course approved for continuing education credit?
No. AI-Powered Research & Summarization is not currently approved or accredited for continuing education credit, including CE, CPE, or CEU credit, by any state, licensing body, or accrediting organization. If you need credit toward a license or designation, choose a course approved by the body that issues it.
Is this course legal or financial advice?
No. The course is educational and is not legal, financial, or other professional advice. It teaches research and verification methods, and it specifically says to read the primary source yourself for legal, financial, regulatory, or medical facts. Your employer's AI policy governs which tools and documents you may use.
Will the methods still work as AI tools change?
Yes, by design. The course teaches habits rather than product features: scope the question, supply the sources, separate synthesis from recall, click through citations, weigh and date sources, and label confidence honestly. Those apply whatever assistant or search tool you use, so they don't depend on any one product's current version.
How much does the course cost, and can I enroll my team?
The course costs $99 per learner as a one-time purchase, with no subscription or recurring fees. To enroll a team or department, contact RiseCert through the Contact Us page at risecert.org.
What is the refund policy?
All sales are final and no refunds are issued, as stated in the RiseCert Terms of Use. Please review the course description, lesson list, and these FAQs before purchasing, and contact RiseCert with any questions first.
